You Are Missing More Than You Think
The topic may sound odd, doesn’t it?
“You are already missing.”
Missing what? How are you missing it? What exactly are you missing?
These questions may come to mind as you read the headline. Be patient; In sha’Allah, the answers will become clear.
When was the last time you prayed in congregation?
Perhaps you always have one excuse or another for missing Salah in congregation. “I was busy.” “I slept off.” “I wasn’t conscious of the time.” These are common excuses, but many of them can be avoided if we cultivate the habit of being conscious of prayer times.
You do not have to wait until the adhan is called before making your way to the mosque. Sometimes, you may not even hear it. The reward of praying in congregation is immense—enough to make a believer unwilling to miss it.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The prayer in congregation is twenty-seven times superior to the prayer offered by a person alone.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)
You see? You could be missing a great deal simply by neglecting congregational prayer.
But it does not end there.
As brothers and sisters in faith, when was the last time you listened attentively to an Islamic lecture or reminder shared on your platform? Do you make time for daily taʿlim in your home? Do you regularly attend madrasah or halqah? Do you recite the Qur’an every day?
You are missing greatly!
Your active participation in Islamic programmes and gatherings can benefit you immensely. When you constantly stay away from them, you are the one missing out.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah will have one good deed for it, and each good deed is multiplied by ten.”
(At-Tirmidhi)
Think about that. Every letter you recite from the Qur’an carries reward. Yet, how often do we allow our busy schedules, entertainment, and distractions to take its place?
You found time for the cinema, music shows, clubs, outings, and countless other forms of entertainment. But you could not find time for the mosque, Islamic programmes, Rural Daʿwah, or the activities of organisations working to serve the Ummah.
You are missing!
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Whoever follows a path in pursuit of knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise.”
(Sahih Muslim)
So, while you are investing hours in entertainment, are you also investing in your Hereafter?
And what about your wealth?
Perhaps you are willing to spend money on entertainment, betting, fashion, and things that bring temporary enjoyment, yet hesitate to give even a small amount in charity to support projects that feed the hungry, care for orphans, support the elderly, provide clean water, and assist people in need.
Even ₦1,000 given sincerely for the sake of Allah may become a deed you desperately wish you had done when you stand before Him.
You are missing!
To my sisters: the hijab is not merely a piece of clothing; it is an act of worship and an expression of obedience to Allah. Do not exchange the dignity and reward of modesty for fleeting fashion trends.
And to my brothers: do not allow fashion to make you neglect the principles of Islamic modesty and appearance. Clothes may change with trends, but our commitment to Allah should never become outdated.
Even when choosing permissible clothing, your intention matters. If you dress in a way that isconsistent with the Sunnah out of love for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and a desire to follow hisexample, there can be reward in that intention.
Now, do you see how much you could be missing?
There is a whole world of reward, knowledge, brotherhood, service, and opportunities to draw closer to Allah waiting for you.
Do not wait until you lose something before realizing its value.
Pray. Learn. Give. Serve. Participate. Grow.
Do not be absent from opportunities that may become your means of earning Allah’s mercy.
